A lot of times when people start out with Native Bees, they try to override as in try to ID them to species. I would try to figure out the families first. And then after you get the family, try and get to the genus. There's this book called The Bees in Your Backyard that really helped me get to families. It has a honey bee on the cover for some reason, but it'll really help you with Native Bees.

Honeybees get all the attention, but native bees are the underbugs to root for. Photographer, author, and National Geographic Explorer Krystle Hickman shows us the wonders of indigenous bees through her lens focused on conservation of bees and their habitats. She covers their lifecycles, tunnels, turrets, fuzzy butts, frat house cuddling, and sexual dimorphism. We also chat about taxonomic fisticuffs, bee hotels, the mustard blight, monocultures, the teeniest livestock, and how to appreciate and photograph all of the marvels you’ve been overlooking.
