The Role of Government in Constructing Identities

The last big question i want to ask is about the role of government, but more broadly, just bureaucratic kind of forms and categories in constructing these identities. You give people this kind of conceptioal, new, novel, conceptual vocabulary for thinking about themselves. I mean, intuitively, it seems like that's going to have an effect. But i don't know that those sensus categories could do the work. If it weren't for probably what's happening with social media influences and pomp and celebrity and sports and whatever, i would have thought it's, it's that other stuff which is probably much more important.
