Many people ascribe Imran Khan's success and his route to office as one that led through the military. He never would have been prime minister without their support, some say. Pakistan is in a pretty polished state economically but there's an aspect of Pakistani politics which is very feudal. There are these dominant families who literally have retainers amongst the rural poor. They have very influential positions and their power bases are built almost around feudal loities. But if things start getting out of hand at getting out of control, and you lose the approval of the military, then it could get ugly.
