Xenophanes - God Is One Among Gods

Xenophanes says god is one among gods, and men incomparable to mortals in body or thought. God needs nothing, despite what the poets would have you believe - he doesn't need em. But like the homeric and hesiotic gods, he can shake everything just by thinking. In another fragment, it looks like he's claiming his teachings as being like the truth. So where's that tremendous self confidence now? It seems to have been replaced by a deep modesty about human powers of understanding.
