The Role of Law in Washer Women Strikes

Laundry work particularly in the south but nationally overall was connected to black women and to black women in slavery. It was arduous work, you had to make so boil water, bring things out by hand before the advent of any of the machinery of the 20th century. So as they move into freedom, it is amazing to see that washer women immediately begin to determine that they will do this work on their own schedule.
