Gary Glitter's Conviction Was Part of Operation U-Tree
Gary Glitter's conviction was part of the operation, U-Tree. It was post Jimmy Savile when police started looking into particularly celebrities and looking at historical sexual abuse. In 1997 it emerged that he'd taken a laptop to his local electrical store and they'd found some images of child sexual abuse on the hard drive. And so in November 1999, he was jailed for four months. Then he basically left the UK and went travelling. So he went to Cuba, first of all, farthered at a child there. In 2002, he was deported from Cambodia after a leg sexual offences. And in 2006, he was convicted of sexually abusing two girls in Vietnam,. age 10 and 11 and
