Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

The original series, Star Trek of the 1960s, was very much a product of not just a great society, but also the Cold War. The writers and producers for DS9 were trying to bring conflict back in Star Trek. They were trying to be intentional about making it less of utopia and more about the hardship of living on the frontier.
