All modern theatrical practice in particularly America flows from things that Stanislavski was doing at the Moscow Art Theater. The idea of a spine of a play or a through line of action, I mean, you know, he really gave us everything that U.S. theater relies on. He started using rehearsals to experiment with acting technique and it drove him nuts. And their reputation became very controversial as well. There were people who thought they were only good for the period while Chekhov was alive.
