Nurses across the UK have voted to strike over pay, with action expected to start by the end of the year. In England, the turnout was actually too low in nearly half of NHS trust for strike action to take place. If strikes go ahead, it will be the first time that UK-wide action has been taken by Royal College of Nursing members in its 106-year history. It sounds as if the action will affect routine services like planned operations like knee and hip replacements,. Some district nursing, some mental health care, emergency services will still be covered by nurses.
