The Spiritual World Is the Contrast to the Physical World

We need to stop thinking about the spiritual world as having compartments, apartments or anything like that. Spiritual world is the counterpart to the physical world. In the spiritual world, there are supernatural beings loyal to god. God lives in the spiritual world but it's also the realm of the disembodied. So this language we get in scripture should be taken with a grain of salt.
