Focus is life regardless of whatever circumstances are happening around you or within you. Focused attention is about noticing where your mind is and bringing it back to a particular anchor. In mindfulness, this is often the breath. We start by focusing on the sensation of the breath, and then, of course, within mill o seconds, our mind drifts off to something else,. And we don't actually know that we've drifted off to something Else.
