I Think the Americans Were Much Less Susceptible to Manipulation During the Cold War
I think that in general, as as a very general matter, soviet attempts to manipulate american opinion were much less effective than russian attempts to day. I think that the Americans had a much stronger, clearer sense of self, of what America was at the time. The Russians did not want to be thought of as in any way responsible for jf k's assassination - understanding full well that would have triggered a war. But i think we were less susceptible to manipulation during the cold war for a number of reasons.
