I take the skeptical strain in this very seriously, in the sense of modesty about what one can know rationally and scientifically. He even makes comments about how philosophers can ever agree and act like they're secretaries to nature running around China. And so I think that's a very important part of this humanism and the critique of the hair splitting of the scholastics.
