The Importance of Rationality in Ritual Conduct

The Vedas are often described in insufficient detail, writes Andrew Keen. Some kind of rational method was needed to systematize the injunctions, he says. Keen: Mimamsa school dealt with gaps by reasoning from one case to other analogous cases. If a ritual is described inufficient detail, this can be remedied through procedures they called transfer, adaptation and annulment of details.
