What's the Big Picture of the Function of Adam?

Adam and Eve is a story of death, but there's more to it than that. Adam doesn't physically die on the spot; he has to leave this paradise land with eve. There are parallels between adam and israel: if you worship other godsyou'll be cast out of the land. If you disobey these laws then you're an idolatrous people who just don't listen or suffer consequences for not obeying them. That's what i mean thinking of it in terms of physical death, tat maybe. But metaphorical death, there is an angle there too that people take.
