In the bible, god reassures himself by subjecting his people to these little test in the book of job. The devil gets god to let him torture one of his most faithful worshippers just to see if he breaks. Job refused to apologize for a sin he had not committed. He knew he was innocent. And so all you got to do is get on your knees and beg for mercy, and surely, god, who is just, will release you from all this torment. Now i think he probably would have. But then job would not have a book of the bibl dedicated to him either.
