Understanding the Origins of Flightless Birds

The Smithsonian Institution's Department of Paleobiology is trying to understand the origin of birds. Matthew Carano: We need this kind of approach on modern flight to really start to understand what the origins functionally might have been. Researchers at Airbus and NASA are dreaming of novel designs for a winged aircraft that could mimic some of the incredible maneuvering talents of birds.
