What Is the Fundamental Purpose of Science?

The alchemical fantasy was thousands of years old before science emerged out of it. It takes a long time to dream about something before you can turn it into a reality, I mean Newton for example and everybody pretty much admits that Newton was a scientist. He wrote an immense amount of material on alchemy. He's a real mystical person, something you often don't know about great scientists, they're very, very, very peculiar people.
