In 19 57, vance packard wrote a book called the hidden persuadrs. He argued that psychology had been exploited by corporate agencies to manipulate people. Packard was appalled at this and thought it was extremely dangerous. And he raised questions about not just consumer culture, but about liberal democracy. O very much resonates with me in terms of what i'm talking about here.
