The Love Doll and Other Magical Elements
An old collection of Greek magical spells from the 2nd century BC shows off the scope of this folklore. A lot of the elements described in the manuscript dealt with a concept called sympathetic magic. For example, asparagus was often fed to grooms before their wedding night to serve as an aphrodisiac. As little as 32 milligrams could shut down a person's kidneys.
