The Japanese-Russian relationship was a pivotal part of world history that is understudied. Why didn't they get into it? Part of the reasons under discussed is probably there's a lot of historians sympathetic to the Soviet cause and talking too much about why they didn't fight starts revealing what Sean McMieken revealed. The NSA declassified a bunch of cables after the Cold War which basically showed that they had lots of communist spies in the US.
