In 1902, Duke of Westminster set out to get the world to start adopting cigarettes. He cut out independent manufacturers and free agents, small resailors and rollers. The entire tobacco market went from an artisanal industry with strong unions to a vast factory for the production of identical machine-rolled cigarettes.
