The Benefits of a Distributed System for Uber

Think of Uber. If all data is stored and served in only a single node, the compute power in such node is actually very limited. It cannot handle a few requests per second. That means that all the other thousands of requests that submitted to Uber will not be serviced by the system. And we call this, when that happened, we call the system is unavailable. So that's why Uber uses a distributed system. Again, it will shard, replicate the customer data and distribute that in one location so that this problem is avoided. You get better performance because you store the data closer where the data is.
