The Story of Thorvald Azvaldsson
In 960, a Viking named Thorvald Azvaldsson was exiled from Norway for the crime of manslaughter. Why Thorvald elected to head to Iceland for his exile? It's unclear. He may have gone to Ireland or England, where there were significant Viking colonies. When Thorvald would come to Iceland, he would bring with him a son, Eric Thorvaldsson, better known today as Eric the Red.
