The New Building in Chinatown
The Sun-Loh store in Chinatown was built in 1915 and is still called the new building. The book gives a sense of daily life for Chinese people during that period, says Chin. "One of my great hopes in writing this book really is that folks understand what's in a very personal and visceral way," she says.
