John Stuart Mill says Christians have done their fair share of persecution throughout history and there's no excuse for it. How do you know the person you are persecuting isn't actually in the right? It is supreme arrogance to say that you're right and anybody who disagrees with you deserves to suffer, he writes. "How much pain and death could be avoided if we just let people be free to speak their minds"
