The Four Things You Need to Know About Brain Function

When we're in a flow state, our sense of self disappears. Self-consciousness and bodily awareness will disappear sometimes. The brain needs lots of energy to focus on the thing that's directly in front of you. It shuts down non-critical structures and repurposes that energy for attention. A lot of what gets shut down is in the prefrontal cortex; some of it flows really strange effects.
