Mary lynch wanted somebody to prove that stocks are a good investment. It took four years and decades of manual data from decades, almost a century, worth of newspaper clipping. This was the first rigorous, thorough study that showed it. Even if yo'd invested at the peak or the roaring twenties, just before the big crash and the great depression, you still would have made more money than you would in bonds.
