Changes in the Arctic Soundscape

Change in the extent of sea ice has had a number of impacts on the sound scape. We are hearing more wind noise the water because there's less sea ice. And we're also hearing changes in the biology of the arctic. We're hearing more sub-arctic species, such as humptock whales and finback whales. Si was reading in preparation for this interview that the world's ocean have absorbed over 90 % of the heat trapped by greenhouse gases from the atmosphere. This tremendous increase is altering migratory routes of many species including bowheads, balugas and orcas.
