The Five Principles of Marriage
Aquinas argued that there is a certain equality between husband and wife because equality is necessary for friendship. He believed that living marriage in any other way than monogamously would reduce wives to a position of inequality and servility to husbands. True friendship following Aristotle wants the good not only for oneself but for one's friend, he said.
