Sarah Appleby and John Tall

Sarah Appleby met John Tall in 1839 when she was teaching young girls to help them become self-sufficient women. She set up a school at the time for young girls, for women. Historian Angela Buckley says Appleby was a pioneer in the area of women's education. Meg Edwards: It wasn't quite so big of a leap to marry a Quaker who was out of favor.
