The Origins of Human Nature
Vico maintained that primitive man, this half savage beast, grandi bestioni, he calls them, hardly difed to be differentiated from some kind of anthropoid apes with whom he thinks human history begins. Vico said at the end of the eighteenth century a good wolf demonstrated propositions in a more scolarly manner than those made by aristotle and stoics or christian fathers. The question is what is superior? And we must remember that vico lived at the time of the great quarrel between the ancient and moderns.
