Training in the Age of Hand Grenades

In the austrian army, for example, soldiers were allotted 30 rounds a year for target practice. In peace time, an austrian soldier would only fire his weapon two or three times a month. Hand grenades did exist in this era, but they were incredibly dangerous and unreliable. By napoleon's day, it had been decades since any european military used them in significant numbers. But armies found that the units they had organized to use the grenade were actually quite useful.
