Augustine's writings on original sin were born in the context of Christian theological dispute that had come to a boil by about 410. Augustine understood the ancient Jewish history captured in the Hebrew Bible as an imperfect prelude to Christianity. The second major project Augustine sets himself up to do is to interpret much of the Old Testament as Christian through and through.
