In the late 1970s, a first year Manhattan lawyer made about $1,000 more than a first year teacher. Today, today, a firstyear Manhattan attorney makes about $100,000 more. Why is teaching low status in this country? And it seems like the pay for teachers versus like attorneys and other professionals has just the gap is wide and substantially over time.
