I don't think that if there was free speech in Russia today, Vladimir Putin would have been able to do what he has done. I mean the ultimate irony is that we are so cautious about drawing comparisons with the 1930s. And yet the one person who is trying to mention the 1930s every twists and turns is Putin himself. So maybe this is the corrective. That image is the corrective to what you've heard from Russia's leader today.
