The idea that a hierarchical position based on power is the only regulating factor for the construction of hierarchies turns out to be quite wrong now even in animals and it's really wrong in people as far as I'm concerned. We don't have one hierarchy we have many diverse hierarchies and there's many ways that you can climb to the top or at least move slightly upward in many different hierarchies. There are some zero-sum games but we're pretty damn good at coming up with new games with new rewards and new rules and also producing a whole plethora of goods that we didn't have before so it's not a zero-sum game.
