The Importance of Axioms
Pino's axioms are not only desirable, but essential for it to be rational, yet they are inconsistent. We can't find a true or false proof of them. So there is no such thing as the will of the people. There is no way to regard society as a decision maker with self consistent preferences. This is hardly the conclusion that social choice theory was supposed to report back to the world. It seems to follow that a group of people jointly making decisions is necessarily a rationale in one way or another.
