Most behavior scientists have what is called the epi phenomenal view of consciousness. This means that we have this subjective experience that has no obvious functional explanation, is no reas it exists. If you imagine a planet where these organisms exist, the d and a starts replicating more and more complex machines. And again, you wouldn't expect consciousness to magically show up. You don't need to invoke it to explain why natural selection builds these machines.
