The Newtonian Myth of the Mechanical Universe
The idea of the mechanical universe that is essentially dead is a very persuasive one. Most intelligent people today who are products of the college and that particular system of propaganda and indoctrination really feel that this is the case. Now what is important is to understand that this is a myth. Just as the other thing about the great cosmic king is also a myth there is no foundation for it in fact whatsoever. But it's a way you see of putting the world down when it had been put up too much by being made embarrassingly intelligent. Better a dead world than one watching me like that.
