The Bank of England's Independence
There's a lot of debate now about the bank of england's independence. I wondered if you agreed with my view that the bank should be sticking to its knitting and actually bearing down seriously on inflation. Of course, the bank has to be accountable to democratically elected politicians. But it only works If it's a technocratic organization that is willing to take decisions that are ripe for the long term health of the economy,. rather than short term boosting of government opinion poles.
