Henrietta Lacks was a poor African-American woman suffering from cancer. She arrived at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore with unexplained bleeding and abdominal pain. Her cells have gone on to become one of the most important tools in medicine. For decades her family have been fighting for a say in how those cells are used.
