What Is the Capability Approach?

The key question to ask when comparing societies is, what is each person able to do and to be? So the goal is capability or opportunity, not actually having the government dragoon you into behaving in a certain way. I think there's more disagreement than Richard Epstein thinks there is because of the role of law. The Chicago School doesn't give people enough credit for altruism and compassion - that's my main beef with them.
