The Negative Reaction to Space Exploration

As a geoscientist, I'm fascinated by what we've learned about our neighboring planets in space. But the idea that we could somehow engineer another planet by fiat over a couple of generations or shorter timescale is so diluted it just takes my breath away. The same amount of money could be put into real solutions to our energy problems and finding truly carbon neutral energy sources.
