Rome began with two kings named romulus and remus. According to roman myth, their mother was seduced by the war god mars. The children are just left to die, which was an ancient custom. But the boys survive - they eventually gather followers and build a city. Modern excavation shows that the first pioneers come to the site before 800 b c.
