We do have socially enforced monogamy, or have had for many decades. It is absolutely the norm that someone will only take one mate at a time,. And polyamory and stuff like that is growing, but it's still a minority. The modern mating market as kind of a more of a gish-galop system. So one man, multiple female partners, one woman, multiple male partners.
