The Relationship Between Political Instability and Economic Success

De Gaulle would not be surprised by the fact that there was no necessary relationship between the relative economic success and political stability. He would have said the purpose of the state is not economic growth, it's not maximising employment. France has had a situation with large scale immigration from North Africa and Africa and their own. So possibly that has eroded that sense of nationhood as well. The world turn it governments which are possible yet remains sort of core French in some way.
