The Philosopher's People by Iris Murdoch

Iris Murdoch's writings display an enduring engagement with William Blake, perfection for letters and her philosophy are peppered by illusions to his art and poetry. She's referenced in The Time of the Angels and The Philosopher's People, but also in the Unicorn, Bruno's Dream, and the Black Prince. One of the earliest currently available references to Blake appears in a letter to Hal Liddedale, dated 6th November 1945,. Where are you now in what distant, deeps or skies? Sock illusions suggest that Murdoch knew Blake's poetry by heart.
