The Defunding of Universities
I think that's a really interesting question. When people ask, you know, why have universities corporatized or become more private in nature, more neo liberal in nature, that dominant answer I think people give is because of government underfunding. And while it is absolutely true that public funding for universities has declined, I always want to emphasize to people that it's not simply how much money going into the university. So there's lots and lots of money going into universities in new ways in order to promote privatization. In fact, just putting in more money is not going to change that. It's going to reinforce the new relations that have been put into place.
