The Romans Didn't Know When the Juniculum Was Built

The romans themselves didn't seem to know exactly when or why it was built. Their mythology says that romulus built it himself in the 800 b c, after the romans and the sabines became allies. According to livy, numa built the geniculum as part of a project to civilize the violent warlike early romans. The juniculum was said to be numa's grandest building.
